What is the Title I Reading Academy?
The Title I Reading Academy is a 5 ½ day professional development opportunity that focuses on:
- using assessment to diagnose individual students’ strengths and needs, and
- using research-based reading strategies during instruction with at-risk readers.
Who should attend the Title I Reading Academy?
- Cadres of Title I and K-5 teachers.
- Priority will be given to teachers who have not previously attended a Title I or Summer Reading Academy.
Who should attend the Pre-Academy?
- Teachers who do NOT know how to use running records.
- Teachers who do not use Running Records on a regular basis and would like to review the procedures.
What does the Title I Reading Academy provide?
- Increased knowledge in the core areas of reading.
- Over 25 hours of professional development.
- Curriculum notebook with information and activities.
- Continental breakfast and lunch provided daily.
What is the cost to the district?
- Districts may use Title I or Title IIA funds for this professional development opportunity.
- Districts will be responsible for travel, hotel and dinner expenses.
What time does the Title I Reading Academy start and end each day?
Pre-Academy (optional ½ day) — 1:00-4:00
Days 1 through 5 — 8:30-3:30
